ACCESS Files

Initial ACCESS File

ACCESS files are files that contain access control records that indicate who can receive the data you serve and what data they can receive. ACCESS files can reside in server root domains and in user pages. When serving data from a minidisk, SFS directory, or using CMS search order, an ACCESS file is a file with the filetype ACCESS. When serving data from a BFS directory, an ACCESS file is a file with the extension .ACCESS (the extension must be in uppercase).

VM:Webgateway uses the records in an ACCESS file when it encounters a SKIP TOFILE access control record. The SKIP TOFILE record allows several DIRMAP files to point to the same ACCESS file. As a result, you can use an ACCESS file to set up a common set of access control rules for your files or to allow more than one user to share a common set of access control rules.

Initial ACCESS File

The initial ACCESS file is an ACCESS file set up by a VM:Webgateway system administrator to control access over all user pages. The initial ACCESS file must reside on a minidisk or SFS directory accessed by the VM:Webgateway SVM.

If a system administrator sets up an initial ACCESS file, VM:Webgateway reads the initial ACCESS file before processing access control records in DIRMAP and ACCESS files in user pages. The access control rules in the initial ACCESS file can override the rules set up by users for their user pages or can provide default rules for user pages.
