| | Files VM:Webgateway Can ServeVM:Webgateway can serve static files and common gateway interface (CGI) programs. Static files contain data in many forms, such as, text (usually HTML), graphics, audio, or video. VM:Webgateway retrieves the data from the file and serves it to a web browser without modifying it. You can make static files more dynamic by using filters on any type of static file and by embedding server-side include (SSI) commands in HTML files. SSI commands tell the server to dynamically include additional information (for example, the contents of another file, or the file date) when it serves a file. Filters reformat file data before VM:Webgateway serves it to the web browser. CGI programs receive data, process it, and write output to a web browser. For example, an HTML form might indicate that a certain CGI program is to process the form. When a user completes and submits the form, VM:Webgateway invokes that CGI program. The CGI program asks VM:Webgateway for the user input from the form, processes the input, and writes the output to the web browser. VM:Webgateway can run CGI programs created for VM:Webgateway or the Webshare product. The programs can run on either the VM:Webgateway service virtual machine or a VM:Webgateway worker machine. VM:Webgateway can serve static files and CGI programs from the VM:Webgateway server root domain or from user pages. Before you can serve files from a user page, a VM:Webgateway system administrator must configure VM:Webgateway to allow user pages. In addition, to serve CGI programs from a user page, a VM:Webgateway system administrator must configure your VM userid as a CGI userid. |
