Locations from Which VM:Webgateway Can Serve Files

Minidisk | SFS Directory | BFS Directory | CMS Search Order | DIRMAP Files

VM:Webgateway can serve files from the VM:Webgateway server root domain or from individual user pages.

The server root domain can be defined as:

  • A single minidisk
  • A single SFS directory and its subdirectories
  • A single BFS directory and its subdirectories
  • Minidisks and SFS directories accessed by the VM:Webgateway SVM, based on the SVM's CMS search order

A user page can be defined as:

  • A single minidisk
  • A single SFS directory and its subdirectories
  • A single BFS directory and its subdirectories

Before a user can serve data from her user page, a VM:Webgateway system administrator must configure VM:Webgateway to serve data from user pages.

Minidisk

When the server root domain or user page is defined as a minidisk:

  • Every file VM:Webgateway is to serve must reside in that minidisk and must be identified in the appropriate DIRMAP files
  • VM:Webgateway must have read access to the minidisk

SFS Directory

When the server root domain or user page is defined as an SFS directory:

  • Every file VM:Webgateway is to serve must reside in that directory, and optionally, in its subdirectories
  • VM:Webgateway must have the SFS authorizations needed to read the files you want to serve

You do not have to identify the files you want to serve in DIRMAP files.

BFS Directory

When the server root domain or user page is defined as a BFS directory:

  • Every file VM:Webgateway is to serve must reside in that directory, and optionally, in its subdirectories
  • VM:Webgateway must have permission to read and search the BFS directories
  • VM:Webgateway must have permission to read each static file you want to serve
  • VM:Webgateway must have permission to read and execute each CGI program you want to serve

You do not have to identify the files you want to serve in DIRMAP files.

CMS Search Order

When serving files based on CMS search order:

  • All the files VM:Webgateway is to serve must reside in minidisks and SFS directories accessed by the VM:Webgateway SVM.
  • Each file VM:Webgateway is to serve must be identified in DIRMAP files.

When VM:Webgateway receives a request to serve a file and more than one version of the file exists, VM:Webgateway serves the version it locates first using standard CMS search order.

DIRMAP Files

For a minidisk, SFS directory, and CMS search order, a DIRMAP file is a file with the filetype DIRMAP. For a BFS directory, a DIRMAP file is a file with the extension .DIRMAP. VM:Webgateway uses DIRMAP files to locate the files it is to serve from either the server root domain or a user page.

Place directory control records in a DIRMAP file to identify:

You can also place access control records in DIRMAP files to control access to files on your system.

When serving files from a single minidisk or based on the CMS search order, DIRMAP files are required. VM:Webgateway serves only the files you identify in DIRMAP files.

When serving files from an SFS or BFS directory, DIRMAP files can be used, but are not required. VM:Webgateway serves any file it can read whether it is identified in a DIRMAP file or not. To prevent VM:Webgateway from serving a file, you can:

  • Set up access control
  • Set the SFS authorizations or BFS permissions to prohibit VM:Webgateway from reading the files
