Publishing Files Created Using Netscape Composer

Summary of Steps | Steps in Detail

Summary of Steps

  1. Use Netscape Composer to create the web page and save it.
  2. Begin the publishing process by clicking the Publish option on the Composer toolbar. Respond to the prompts to have your web page copied to VM.
  3. If you copied the file to a user page, grant the VM:Webgateway service virtual machine the proper SFS or BFS authority to read the file on VM.

Steps in Detail

  1. Use Netscape Composer to create the web page and save it.

  2. Begin the publishing process by clicking the Publish option on the Composer toolbar. Respond to the prompts to have your web page copied to VM.

When you click the Publish option, Composer displays the Publish dialog box.

In the Publish dialog box, specify the name you want the file to have on VM, identify your FTP server and the VM directory you want the file copied to, and specify the userid and password to validate that you are authorized to copy files to the specified location.

In the HTML Filename field, specify the name you want the HTML file to have on VM. If you are copying the file to an SFS directory, use the format CMSfilename.CMSfiletype. If you are copying the file to a BFS directory, use the format BFSname.extension. You must specify the VM:Webgateway content filetype htmlbin for CMSfiletype or extension; htmlbin has been defined in VM:Webgateway with file characteristics text/html and translation none. Refer to the Naming the Files to Serve topic, listed in the sidebar, for more information on filenames and filetypes.

In the HTTP or FTP Location to publish to field, specify the name of your FTP server (ask your system administrator for the name if you do not know it) and the SFS or BFS directory you want the file copied to. Be sure to include the trailing slash for the FTP server name. For example, enter ftp://www.company.com/.

When copying a file to an SFS directory, use slashes instead of periods in the directory path (for example, VMSYSU:VMWEBSRV/WEB_ROOT or VMSYSU:HECTOR/USERROOT).

When copying a file to a BFS directory, use absolute rather than relative paths (for example, /../VMBFS:VMSYSU:VMWEBSRV/web_root or /../VMBFS:VMSYSU:USERROOT/Hector). You must use the exact case (upper and lowercase letters) when specifying a BFS directory name.

If you are copying the file to the VM:Webgateway server root domain, enter the userid and password of the VM:Webgateway SVM in the User name and Password fields. If you are copying the file to a user page, enter the VM userid that owns the user page and the password for that userid.

In this example, a user is copying a web page listing resumes of coworkers to the VM:Webgateway server root domain in an SFS directory:

Copy the file to VM by clicking OK.

  3. If you copied the file to a user page, grant the VM:Webgateway service virtual machine the proper SFS or BFS authority to read the file on VM.

Grant authority to the SFS or BFS directory defined as the user page user root and to all files copied into that directory.
