Summary of Steps | Steps in Detail

Summary of Steps

  1. Create and save one or more web pages.
  2. Make sure the web server to which you are going to copy the web pages is running.
  3. Begin the publishing process by selecting the Publish FrontPage Web... option from the File menu of FrontPage Explorer. Respond to the prompts to copy your web pages to VM.
  4. Give the VM:Webgateway SVM the proper SFS authorizations or BFS permissions to access the files from VM.

Steps in Detail

  1. Create and save one or more web pages.

Use FrontPage Editor to create your web pages. When you have completed the web pages you want to move to VM, save the pages and close FrontPage Editor.

  2. Make sure the web server to which you are going to copy the web pages is running. From your web browser, request a page that is stored on the server you are going to use. For example, if you are going to use the VM:Webgateway SVM identified as www.company.com on TCP port 80, enter this URL:

    http://www.company.com:80/VM:Webgateway/viwhome.html

If VM:Webgateway serves the VM:Webgateway Table of Contents page, the server is running.

  3. Begin the publishing process by selecting the Publish FrontPage Web... option from the File menu of FrontPage Explorer. Respond to the prompts to copy your web pages to VM.

When you select Publish FrontPage Web..., FrontPage displays the Publish dialog box.

    • In the Publish Dialog box, identify the protocol and web server you are going to use to display the web pages.

If you are copying the files to the VM:Webgateway server root domain, identify the protocol and web server using the format protocol://site.name:tcpport. For example, enter http://www.company.com:80 .

If you are copying the files to a user page, also identify the user page, using the format protocol://site.name:tcpport/~userid. For example, enter http://www.company.com:80/~hector.

Then click OK. The Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard displays.

Note: The Publish button on the toolbar automatically copies files to the last directory to which you copied files. You can use that button as a shortcut when appropriate.

    • In the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard, identify your FTP server and the directory on VM to which you want the files copied.

In the FTP Server Name field, specify the name of your FTP server (for example, enter www.company.com). If you do not know the name of the FTP server, ask your VM:Webgateway system administrator.

In the Directory Path field, specify the directory to which you want the files copied.

For an SFS directory, specify the fully qualified directory name (for example, VMSYSU:VMWEBSRV.WEB_ROOT or VMSYSU:HECTOR.USERROOT).

For a BFS directory, specify the directory using the absolute path rather than a relative path (for example /../VMBFS:VMSYSU:ROOT/VMWebserverRoot or /../VMBFS:VMSYSU:HECTOR/UserRoot). You must use the exact case (upper and lower case letters) when specifying a BFS directory name.

Then click Next to display the next dialog box.

    • In the User name and Password fields, specify the userid and password of a user who has permission to write to the directory to which you want to copy the files.

    • Copy the files to VM by clicking Finish. If you are sending a web of pages, FTP creates any subdirectories required to maintain a hierarchy among those pages.

  4. Give the VM:Webgateway SVM the proper SFS authorizations or BFS permissions to access the files from VM.

For SFS, give the VM:Webgateway SVM the SFS authorizations needed to read the directory to which you are copying the files and to all subdirectories created by FTP. Also give the SVM the SFS authorizations needed to read all files copied into those directories.

For BFS, give the VM:Webgateway SVM permission to read and search the BFS directory to which you are copying the files and to all subdirectories created by FTP. Also give the SVM permission to read all files copied into those directories.

Note: You can configure VM:Webgateway to display the FrontPage home page whenever a user specifies the URL of a directory, rather than a specific file. To do so, specify the FrontPage home page as the default file for the server root domain or user page.
