Exempting Cipher Suites (SSL)

  1. Identify the cipher suites you want to exempt.

Exempt a cipher suite that has been compromised if you think that allowing VM:Webgateway to use the cipher suite compromises your site's security. If you want to force VM:Webgateway to use a particular cipher suite, exempt all cipher suites except the one you want to use.

Enter the QUERY SSL command from a VM userid to list the cipher suites VM:Webgateway supports. Enter the QUERY SOCKET command to determine which cipher suites are currently exempt.

  2. Update the VM:Webgateway TCP socket definition to exempt the cipher suites you do not want to use.

From a web browser: Use the change option of the Configure TCP Sockets configuration form to deselect the cipher suites to exempt.

From a VM userid: Enter the CONFIG SOCKET command, specifying the EXEMPT parameter followed by the names of the cipher suites to exempt. When you enter this command, you must also specify the values for the IP address, TCP port number, server root domain, and the remaining SSL information.
