Converting from Webshare

If your site is currently using Webshare as a web server, you can convert to using VM:Webgateway instead. VM:Webgateway includes tools to accomplish the conversion easily and with no disruption. Specifically, your site must convert the Webshare FILELIST files to VM:Webgateway DIRMAP files, and convert the Webshare configuration information to VM:Webgateway configuration settings.

After you create DIRMAP files from your Webshare FILELIST files, make sure VM:Webgateway has the authorization to read the DIRMAP files and the files you want to serve. Users who are serving data from their own home pages (called user pages in VM:Webgateway) may also need to enter the SET USERROOT command from a VM userid to identify where the files they want to serve reside.

To serve CGI programs that were written for Webshare, give them a filetype that indicates they are to be run in Webshare compatibility mode. To determine what filetype to use, enter the QUERY FILETYPE command. For a user to serve a CGI program from a user page, a VM:Webgateway system administrator must identify the user's VM userid as a CGI userid.

VM:Webgateway can run the CGI programs either on the VM:Webgateway SVM or on a worker. Webshare compatibility CGI programs that run on the VM:Webgateway SVM run one at a time. If you want VM:Webgateway to run multiple Webshare compatability CGI programs simultaneously, you must convert them to VM:Webgateway CGI program format or run them on workers.

Note: After conversion, if you decide to relocate your files to a BFS directory, you will need to convert your CGI programs to VM:Webgateway CGI program format. VM:Webgateway cannot serve Webshare compatibility CGI programs from a BFS directory.
