Editorial Ruminations (August 1996)

Well, 1996 has been a busy year (since November, 1995, really). Car dies and gets replaced, replacement vehicle transmission dies and gets replaced, people leave the workplace creating overtime at my real, paying job, mother-in-law gets ill and dies (cancer) and cannot be replaced, co-workers go on vacation creating more overtime, softball team wins regional tourney and goes belly-up in the state tourney, 10th wedding anniversay.

All during this span of nearly a year I've been serving as interim Music Director at WMEB. This has kept me listening to many, many, many releases, but hasn't allowed for much time to devote to Network Audio Bits. WMEB has finally hired student MDs who will, hopefully, keep the job for a while. The last few students hired all left unexpectedly for a variety of real-life reasons. Since I've been involved with WMEB since 1988 and had filled in as MD before, I held down the music fort as best I could while the rest of WMEB's staff settled into a form that could loosely be called an organization.

What all this means is that I expect to be able to devote much more of my music time to putting out Network Audio Bits. This may be already evident if you've glanced at the 15 reviews I posted in July and/or the 75+ (so far - playing catch-up) reviews that currently inhabit the August issue.

Welcome to a revitalized Network Audio Bits!
