Somewhere between Shonen Knife and Luscious Jackson, Cibo Matto (pronounced 'cheebo motto' - meaning 'food crazy' in Italian) do the cutesy/silly oriental-girl schtick rather well. The lounge-y feel with some decent beats keeps this crossing genres. The only bad thing is the best songs ("Know Your Chicken", "Birthday Cake" and "Beef Jerky") have FCC unfriendly lyrics that will keep those songs off the air unless edits are provided. Warner Brothers has made available an edit of "Know Your Chicken" to radio. Cibo Matto have the potential to be annoying, but repeated exposures have yet to register on the annoyance meter. Their fresh sound and creativity keep things from becoming stale.
Oculus Magazine ran an interview some time ago that members of Soul Coughing conducted with the ladies of Cibo Matto.
Warner Brothers has lots of informationon Cibo Matto out on their website. Warner Brothers general information can be found at: http://www.wbr.com/
