Polly Jean Harvey growls and purrs, sometimes in the same breath, her way through another album's worth of cool tunes. For a band with a major label recording budget, they manage to keep the songs sounding raw and feral, even on the quiet tunes. Polly Jean's singing reminds me of a wild animal that has been tethered, but not cowed.
