Trip-Hop seems to be the flavor of the day. It allows for a fair amount of freedom to explore the nether realms of new technologies and old psychedelic styles to come up with new sounds. Ruby's Salt Peter is an excellent representative for the genre. Lesley Rankine (formerly of Silverfish) and Mark Walk team up in Ruby. Rankine provides the vocals that never quite reach the feral level of PJ Harvey, but are definitely not lacking some teeth of their own. Walk provides the sound bed of beats and samples to create soundscapes that walk tightropes in the gray areas between industrial, trip-hop, techno-dance, rock and jazz. If this grabs you, definitely check out PJ Harvey. Also check out Laika.
