Addressing of buildings in Orono

RE: Addressing and Visible House Number

Dear Resident:

The Fire Department in cooperation with Code Enforcement is visually reviewing addressing and response maps across town for compliance with enhanced 9-1-1 and the town’s addressing ordinance.

This program involves fire personnel checking each home and cross-referencing with response maps. Personnel are checking roadways for clearance, hydrant locations, obstacles that might hinder response and to insure that each house or place of business has a physical number that is contrasting in color to identify the address. This number is required to be at least 4” in height.

In review we have noticed that your home does not have a proper:

No number visible for responders

Number is not visible from the street

Numbers not contrasting or of minimum 4” in height

Address not posted by driveway, on long driveways

Number spelled out, should be numerals (Eight vs 8)

We ask that you please correct this as soon as possible. If you need assistance in placing this number you may call Ms. Dickinson at 866-4000 to arrange for help.

Thanking you in advance.

Lorin F. LeCleire, Fire Chief
