OFD RESPONDS TO

The Orono Fire Deparement is responsible for the protection of between 10000 and 20000 people. The number of residents depends on whether the University of Maine is in session or not. The Department responds to many types of calls and the number varies between 850-1000 non ems calls per year. The calls listed are the primary type of calls.

1. Any report of fire or possible fire of any kind.

2. Any report of smoke in a building, coming from a building, in an
area,or unsual amount of color of smoke coming from a chimney, etc.
This includes reports of unusal odors in a building.

3. Alarms sounding, unless known to be burglar alarms. This includes
smoke detectors.

4. Any problems with sprinkler systems, particularly if the alarm is
sounding or if water is flowing.

5. Gas leaks of any kind: LP, chlorine, etc.

6. Fuel spills of any kind gasoline, oil, diesel, etc.

7. Incidents involving ANY hazardous or chemical materials, other than
bombs.

8. Wires down and incidents involving damage to utility poles.

9. Trench rescue or collapse.

10. Construction accidents.

11. 10-55 PI or 10-55 with poles, houses, or other stationary objects or
property

12. ANY 10-55 rollover, reguardless of injury or not.

13. All alarm panel, fire alarms.

14. Water and animal rescues, winter or summer.

15. All fire alarms at the University of Maine campus.

16. Medical assistance, when requested.

17. Alarms, water problems with Town Property, after hours; or if unable
to contact the supervisor.
