Maine Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi
The Maine Alpha chapter was established on March 11, 1911 and
has initiated over 2200 members since then.
Maine Alpha is a part of District 1 (New England). Despite
the fact that we often have to drive four to five hours to take part in district
activities, we have nearly 100% participation in luncheons, conferences,
and volleyball tournaments.
One of our chapter activities is the
Engineering Outreach program, where we go into fourth
grade classrooms in the area and educate them on engineering. In the past
this project has received newpaper and television publicity and has served
as model for other District 1 schools.
Other activities include the JETS
competition held every spring. JETS is an engineering problem solving competition
for high schools throughtout the state. In addition we will be organizing
an Engineering Futures session in the spring.
